Goals and Objectives:

1      Describe the diagnostic reformulations to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and other disorders related to traumatic stress in the DSM-5 in comparison to those in DSM-IV.

2      Describe the most salient recent findings on the biological substrates of traumatic stress.

3      Compare the formalized treatments that appear to have the most promising results with disorders of traumatic stress.

 

Gilbert (Gil) Reyes, Ph.D., is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and an Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the School of Psychology at Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, California. He was the lead editor of the four-volume Handbook of International Disaster Psychology (2006) and The Encyclopedia of Psychological Trauma (2008), and his areas of expertise include psychological trauma, and the psychosocial effects of disasters, terrorism, torture, and mass violence. He has provided psychosocial disaster support in several national and local disasters across the past decade, including the September 2001 response to the destruction of the World Trade Center, and has worked in a consulting capacity with the World Health Organization and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. He is also active with the National Child Traumatic Stress Network and the National Center for Child Traumatic Stress at UCLA. He serves as the Disaster Relief Committee chair for the American Psychological Association's Division of Trauma Psychology and was the 2012 President of the Society for the Study of Peace, Conflict, and Violence, a Division of the American Psychological Association. In all areas of life, Dr. Reyes emphasizes social support and attachment relationships as tools for resilient coping in the face of extreme adversity.


Continuing Education Credit Approved For:


Psychologists:  This course meets the qualifications for 3 hours of continuing education credit as required by the California Psychological Association Chapter Membership.  The California Psychological Association is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for Psychologists.  CPA maintains responsibility for this program and its contents.


LCSW/MFT: SBCPA is an approved provider of continuing education for the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (PCE 5413) This course meets the qualification of 3 hours of continuing education credit for MFTs, LPCCs, LEPs, and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.


Important Notice: Those who attend the workshop and complete the CPA evaluation form will receive (number of credits) continuing education credits. Please note that APA CE rules require that we only give credit to those who attend the entire workshop. Those arriving more than 15 minutes after the start time or leaving before the workshop is completed will not receive CE credits.”
