Description: The purpose of this seminar is to provide a foundation for multicultural clinical supervision that is grounded in humanistic principles and supervision theory, draws on research regarding helpful supervision practices, and promotes supervision competencies. Participants will learn how to build on their strengths and deepen their practice as clinical supervisors with the goal of supporting the holistic development of supervisees.

Learning Objectives:


At the end of this workshop participants will be able to: 

  1. Describe two features of cultural competence in clinical supervision

  2. Explain the importance of developmental models in the context of multicultural supervision

  3. Differentiate between helpful and hindering behaviors in multicultural supervision

Biography:


Dr. Heidi A. Zetzer is the Director of the Hosford Counseling & Psychological Services Clinic and a Lecturer with Security of Employment in the Department of Counseling, Clinical, & School Psychology at the University of California, Santa Barbara.  Dr. Zetzer teaches Theories of Supervision & Consultation, Supervision Practicum, supervises student clinicians and student supervisors, and coordinates externships. Dr. Zetzer is the President of the Association of Psychology Training Clinics, Chair of the Section for Supervision and Training in the Society of Counseling Psychology (Div 17) of the American Psychological Association. Dr. Zetzer is a former president of the Santa Barbara County Psychological Association. In 2014, Dr. Zetzer received the Outstanding Counseling Supervisor Award from the Supervision & Training Section of the Society of Counseling Psychology (Division 17) of the American Psychological Association.
